Matthew Lewis who played Neville Longbottom wore a fat suit, ear extenders, and fake teeth

Matthew Lewis who played Neville Longbottom wore a fat suit, ear extenders, and fake teeth!

Matthew Lewis was just 11 when he was cast for the role of Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter series. Lewis said that in the beginning his character was very much like his real self at 11. The character was awkward and an outsider. As Lewis grew older and his puberty he thinned out and lost his chubby
figure.

So, he was forced to begin wearing a fat suit, ear extenders, and fake teeth. It wasn’t until the fifth movie that Lewis finally realized he was in the series for the long haul and that they weren’t going to recast him. Lewis has spent half his life playing the character of Neville Longbottom and the last decade as that character has led him to be a confident actor love what he does.

In the last film, he shed the fat suit, fake teeth, and ear extenders and became a hero. It was quite the shock and a pleasing one at that. Lewis is now looking into other scripts and will continue in his career.
